Post 1: The Guardian-article

Hello everyone! I’d like to share with you an interesting article which I found on “The Guardian”. It’s “Tilda Swinton posed as an old man in elaborate hoax for Suspiria” written by Press Association in Los Angeles.
I’ve chosen this article just because I’m interested in films and in ways they are made.

Tilda Swinton was starring in the film as another person, 82-year-old man. This secret was opened, but not because the makeup was bad or something. Famous makeup artist Mark Coulier was hired to transform the actress. He used prosthetics to thicken her neck and built out her jaw to make it look more like a male’s one. 

I was surprised with the fact how real makeup greasepaint can be. I think it’s a good experiment which shows us that nowadays it’s easy to become another person.

I'd like to know more about filming and makeup transformations. Maybe it's because I'm really into makeup, I can spend hours looking for new lipstick. So I'll be interested to watch some tutorials  about makeup greasepaint.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts about this article. The information it contains is really interesting and helps the readers to have a glimpse at the world of actors and how they do things. I found it rather interesting. You're not exaggerating about spending so much time on make-up? I'm impressed:)

There are a lot of languages in the world. And it’s impossible to learn all of them. Some people think that it would be convenient to have one international language. Others are strongly disagree. Hello, everyone!  I read two articles on Guardian and then chose the one about the war, because I found the situation that was discussed in the article very important. So there is a short summary of the article I've read. The article " Britain’s direct complicity in the war in Yemen must end " by Rowan Williams is devoted to the discussion of the problems of war. He is sure that war is a thing that is related to past. It doesn't take place in the current world.  First, the author draws our attention to the fact that it includes two main problems: financial and moral. UK spend a lot of money on arms. He also emphasizes that now, especially before Christmas, war is the last thing people should take attention to. Further, the auhor suggests to decide this situation together. Finally, he noticed that we need to go to the root of the problem and act promptly and effectively.

. A reflective note

The second semester of our course was no less interesting than the first one. During this time we have written really important works that have helped me to develop my writing skills. It was very useful to repeat the theme of the thesis statement. I think my group mates now have a good understanding of how to write essays and other types of texts. I really liked the assignment where we had to write our stories. Now at the University we do not receive such tasks, so it was interesting to try ourselves as writers. If to say that was not very useful, as for me it was the discussion of our works in the group. I think the work should be more individual, and discussing takes a lot of time. At the beginning of the semester, I also enjoyed writing some texts for the guide book assignment. I am also happy that our lessons were not limited to the discussion of writing an essay, and we still discussed the problems of the modern world.
